Chapter 1: The Body
- The ancestors have trained me for years on maintaining proper obsidean knives, carving ritual circles, chanting the prayers, and handling the daily affairs of a young preist of the great Azteca Sun Kingdom. - I am Kandu Bandu, promising sun. I have seen 18 suns and now my training is near complete. The stone corridors I walk feel refreshing as each step echoes in the dark torch lit corridors. My feet step on what feels like soft padding, but is actually the sorting of leaves arranged in a way to assist in my ritual. - - In front of me, lays a corpse, a strange pale looking man, with elongated limbs, sunken eyes, bulbous features, and smooth skin that we Aztecs never seen before. It is quite an honor to present the blood to Ifuqipaka. - - I bloodlet my hand with my obsidean dagger, then prepare the torches to be fed the brown metal to flash green as the ritual progresses. I say my prayers to the ancestors, the great sun god, and plunge the dagger in. - - As the dagger sinks into the soft belly I feel a small gasp. "Was the invader really dead? " I thought to myself. I care not, as the ancestors taught me that the only way is to perform the ritual is to ignore the screaming. As I open its stinking belly, blood falls out the stone table, and into the carved ritual circles. The light flashes a green as my prayers have been noticed. As I reach my hand to what I expect was the heart, I only find a small appendage grabing back, I quickly pull back. My heart races, these are not the innards of a man thing. But something else, these pale men I must figure out more - - "
